(musical theatre) A way of performing a musical where the focus is on the singing and music, with no full sets, costumes, or choreography. Often done with actors standing at microphones and a live band or piano.
Example: They performed “Calling Us Home” in concert, highlighting the music without the usual stage effects.
WHAT IS ‘CALLING US HOME’ IN CONCERT?
‘Calling Us Home - The Musical’ is a powerful musical that explores the themes of heritage, identity, and the universal journey of finding ‘home’.
‘Callling Us Home’ In Concert distills the essence of this grandscale musical into a Concert Format. Flexible, engaging and adaptable for different audience sizes, venues, and budgets — ranging from a minimalist version for smaller events to a grand spectacle featuring a full orchestra and immersive multimedia elements.
‘Callling Us Home’ In Concert weaves together the soaring music of ‘Calling Us Home’ into a narrated storyline, maintaining the impact of a compelling, emotional story about family and belonging. It can be staged in one of three tiers.

The IN CONCERT version of CALLING US HOME invites you to experience a magical evening of song and story, a heartfelt narrated concert of the music that brought Cape Town audiences to their feet in 2023!

This special event at ENDLER HALL features 6 extraordinary singers who will bring the breathtaking songs of CALLING US HOME to life in a mesmerising narrated story experience — a journey of passion, adventure, and soaring melodies! They are accompanied by choir and musicians to create an epic emotional experience!
Dazzling Guest Stars include:
Zimbini, Isabella Jane & Mary Thuli (Ndlovu Youth Choir) who raise their phenomenal voices alongside select members of our AFRICA TOURING Cast.
The evening is narrated by renowned TV star Johann Vermaak and this unique event is not to be missed!

Grace, an African Princess - fleeing a devastating war in her homeland, arrives penniless, in the freezing, grimy docklands of an American city.
The underworld of this city is ruled ruthlessly by the evil gang lord Ivan who, after an unexpected encounter, has set his sights on Grace - her spectacular beauty has dazzled him!
But another has already captured her heart...
The street smart Rafael, a young construction worker with bold ambitions, is determined to win her love. But will his dreams lead only to tragedy…
Forced to adapt to a very different world, Grace becomes friends with Rafael’s feisty and reckless twin sister Isabella. Together they must survive and keep their dreams alive until Grace can find a way to return to her beloved homeland…
